Communications Technology Project Update

I've recorded two songs and going to record two more songs. One original that I wrote already and one cover. Possibly another original if my basic drumming knowledge is sufficient for the song.

Communications Technology - Activity 2.4 Research

  • What is your idea for this project? A 4-6 song EP with songs of different genres. All songs will be instrumental.
  • Why have you chosen this feature?  To develop and expand my musical capabilities.
  • What methods will you use to gather information about your topic? Listening to a lot of different genres of music.
  • Who is your intended audience for your finished campaign? People who enjoys instrumental music and any of the genre I'm going to cover
  • What medium will you use for your campaign? Why? Music. It's the medium that I can express myself the best.
  • What conceptual approach will you use for the work? Why? There will be a raw vibe throughout the EP. I will make the semi unprofessional quality that the EP might have an advantage.
  • What aesthetic/stylistic approach will you use for the work? The main lead instrument of the EP will be the guitar.
  • How will you determine whether your work has communicated effectively with your intended audience?
  • What potential problems do you expect to encounter with this project? A little unprofessional quality to the recording.

    Communications Technology - Mentor

The mentor that I chose for this project is Jack White.
His minimalistic way of approaching music has always been something I admire. But the thing that really inspires me about him is how he really goes out of his way to find guitars that are hard to play. According to him, every note can't just be a wimpy note that you just play. It has to be something you struggle to get. This really keeps him from doing any fancy and fast "shredding" guitar technique that a lot of people practices thousands of hours to perfect. This results to a music that is simple, raw but very musical and melodic. I believe being uncomfortable can really result to something great. That's why I decide write different genre of songs that I'm not comfortable with. I want to limit myself with little knowledge that I know from different genres and make something out of it. Forgetting scales and just playing what sounds good to me.
